Surfing Life Club is one of Portugal’s most respected surf schools. It was founded in Porto in 1994, making it the first surf school in the city. They are now located at Matosinhos Beach, where they offer a wide range of surf lessons for all ages and abilities, as well as surf education, inclusive projects and summer camps.

I planned, designed and implemented the new WordPress-based website, incorporating on-page SEO. I collaborated with Lac from The Surfing Copywriter on this project, with Lac being in charge of the website copy and SEO strategy.

Design concept

The Surfing Life Club brand design concept was adapted slightly for the website redesign. The bold red accent colour and the font style for the headings were kept. I added some softer colours to refine the design and ensured consistency in the use of colours and fonts.

The main keywords associated with the Surfing Life Club brand are fun, innovation, inclusion and empowerment.

Website Redesign

The old Surfing Life Club website was unstructured and slightly chaotic, which made it hard for customers to get an easy overview of the club’s programs and offers.

We made sure to improve the user experience, build a website with a clear structure and make it easy for customers to navigate. We added clear call-to-actions to direct them to the booking page or email link.

The website is built on WordPress and uses the Kadence Theme and Kadence Blocks.

Feedback

Nadine from Saltyhome Webdesign did a complete redesign in WordPress of our previous website which we had done ourselves in Wix. The basic (overall) content and imagery was to remain similar to our previous site, while Nadine on the new site improved page/content structure, navigation & user experience, site technical abilities, onsite SEO and implemented a complete German translation of our previously only English site.

What stands out for us in working with Nadine is that, apart from her technical web design skills, professional & clear communication, being on schedule during the entire project – she,as a surfer and someone who travels for surfing herself, is able to understand our surfing brand and business model from her own (surf & travel) experience, which helps immensely to get the right message across on who we are as a brand and what we offer to customers.

We also really appreciated great technical advice – from figuring the new site’s structure to help on finding the right plugins to make our wishes a reality. Here Nadine was always very detailed, giving us 2 or 3 options and breaking down the pros/cons/limitations/costs of each for us so that we could easily move forward with the project.

The new site looks beautiful and is super functional and we plan to keep adding to it and growing it in the future with Nadine as our business develops and grows. We can definitely recommend Saltyhome Webdesign to any surf business or surfing project out there.
